£50.00

When is it?

  • Wednesday 26th November from 9.30am – 1.30pm (in-person at Watford Wellbeing Centre)

I really enjoyed this course. It was surprisingly fun and also very interactive. It has taught me a lot about MI and how I can motivate people towards change.

What will it cover?

Motivational Interviewing is more than just a technique – it’s a powerful, person-centred approach to communication that helps people explore their own motivations for change. Grounded in empathy, curiosity, and collaboration, MI is especially effective in roles where behaviour change, support, or guidance is part of your everyday work.

This interactive training will explore how MI can be practically applied in your role, equipping you with tools to support others in navigating ambivalence and moving towards meaningful change.

Together, we’ll look at:

  • The core principles and spirit of MI, including compassion, acceptance, partnership, and evocation
  • The MI framework, known as the Four Processes: Engaging, Focusing, Evoking and Planning
  • How to identify and respond to Change Talk and Sustain Talk to help build momentum towards positive action
  • Practical communication tools such as OARS (Open Questions, Affirmations, Reflections, and Summaries) to enhance conversations
  • How to give advice in an MI-consistent way using the Elicit-Provide-Elicit method – avoiding the “righting reflex”
  • Real-life scenarios and exercises to help embed MI in your daily practice

Whether you’re supporting clients, mentoring staff, or working with people through change, MI offers a respectful and empowering framework for building motivation and working together towards solutions.
